Charles Caldwell is the Junior Minister for Magic. When he attended Hogwarts, he was sorted into Hufflepuff house.
Charles is the widowed husband of a Muggle by the name of Georgina Caldwell. She passed away from complications during childbirth. Unfortunately, due to the Statute of Secrecy, Georgina had to give birth at a Muggle hospital, where Charles couldn't save her by magic while she was giving birth. She lived just long enough to name their son after her father, Thomas. It is Charles' goal to alter the Statute of Secrecy to allow
for unusual emergencies such as this. He is also campaigning to allow Muggle women who are married to a wizard to give birth at St. Mungo's.
His only child, Thomas Caldwell, is now a fifth year prefect at Hogwarts. He was sorted into Slytherin.
Charles owns a 9 1/4 inch Aspen wand with a Unicorn tail hair core.
Life at the Ministry[]
When Charles graduated from Hogwarts, he immediately applied for a job at the Ministry of Magic. He decided in his fourth year that he either wanted to be an Auror or a Hit Wizard. He applied for both positions. While the Ministry wasn't in need of any more Aurors, they did need new Hit Wizards and Hit Witches, so he was allowed to try out for the position. He was hired and immediately placed into training. After three years of intensive training, he became a full fledged Hit Wizard. He soon became Commander-in-Chief of the Hit Wizards and became very famous for his performance on the job.
Near the end of the Second Wizarding War (before the Death Eaters took over the Ministry), he was sent to tail a known Death Eater and place him under arrest. Unfortunately, the Death Eater came to know he was being tailed and engaged Charles in a magical duel. He overpowered Charles with illegal curses and mortally wounded him. Back-up arrived just in time to save Charles' life.
Charles spent three months in St. Mungo's after the incident. After he was discharged, he was unable to continue carrying out his duties as a Hit Wizard. The Ministry didn't want to get rid of him, however, so they promoted him to Junior Undersecretary to the Minister. Over the next few years he rose up to be the Junior Minister for Magic.
